The story of the Elaine, Arkansas massacre and the legacy of imprisoned black Americans of Elaine is just beginning to be told. The Elaine 12 were arrested in 1919, and their case went all the way to the Supreme Court in 1923 resulting in the Moore vs Dempsey verdict that changed the shape of our criminal justice system.
September 30, 2022 is a big day for Elaine, beginning with a symposium on the criminal justice system, and including a dedication of the developing Elaine Museum.
